Small is Beautiful

This a toothbrush.

This is a toothbrush, scales may vary, brought in by a patient recently.

Quite a lot of people can't get to their back teeth because they have "problems getting back that far..." or "can't get into those awkward spaces"....

It's rather like parking a car.

If the car is small enough, you can get it into the space.

If your motor is big and oversized, you don't stand a chance.

Get a small toothbrush , or better still, ask your hygienist what is right for you.

You are, as you know, unique :-)

Spit - Don't Rinse!

Heres a great bit of advice:

Toothpastes can contain the following:

Fluoride - to keep decay away
Disinfectants - to kill bad bugs
Desensitisers - so you can eat ice cream
Tooth Hardeners - to protect against wear

and more...

So, when you've finished your brushing, why is it very likely that you then take a  big old mouthful of water , swill it round and wash everything down the sink?

As a result, all those carefully designed active ingredients are on their way to the sea, and not in your mouth, protecting your teeth.

Think about it. Once you've finished brushing, spit out the excess toothpaste, don't rinse it out.

And then keep doing it, and tell everyone you know.

Have you got a dark tooth?

Here's a good case...(this is a library pic - forgive me.....)

I saw a young lady last week with an embarrassing problem - a dark tooth. She had to have a root filling a year or so ago. It's quite common to see such teeth go a nasty shade of grey, just like the one above.

The good news is that five days after starting a special bleaching treatment, its now lighter than its neighbours!

All that remains now is to whiten the rest of her smile to match.

No pain, a tiny amount of drilling, great result

Big Smiles :-)

Have you got a similar problem? If you have, email us a pic and we'll tell you what could be done....

So, you've got dark teeth?

...and your'e wondering why?

There are two reasons:

1. You inherited the colour that you've got - its in your genes....

2. You soaked up some stains along the way. Think about it - coffee, tea, curry, glasses of merlot, passata, curry, cigarette tar - all pigmented.

If you're lucky, you inherited lovely white teeth and you haven't got too many dietary (or other) bad habits.

But life isn't always like that , is it?

Many people want to fight back at the darkening effects of having a life by having their teeth whitened. There are now a variety of safe, proven ways of having this done, and a properly trained dental professional (perhaps a dentist, a dental therapist or a dental hygienist) can provide the treatment for you.

But beware attractive cheap illegal treatment on the back street (or here in Carlisle, in a garage!) - do you know what is being put on your teeth?

If you're interested, ask your dentist or get in touch with us....we'd be delighted to help

Hate Ice Creams or seeing the Hygienist?

....About 55.834% (unconfirmed figure...) of patients @ York Place Dental have sensitive teeth. Most of them use some form of desensitising toothpaste - but my hunch is there are loads out there who don't.

So - if you're sensitive - get some - it doesn't matter which brand you choose in most cases, just buy it on your favourite flavour. And then use it twice daily instead of your old stuff. You should feel the difference within a week.

Let me know how you get on...
